The following policies apply to UW guest/visitor use of all UW wireless network services:
UW-IT strongly recommends use of the secure, encrypted eduroam wireless network when visiting a UW location.
Guests/visitors who use an eduroam service at their home institution should use the same credentials to connect to eduroam at UW. If your device was configured before leaving your home institution, it should automatically connect to eduroam at UW once your credentials are entered.
If your device was not configured for eduroam at your home institution, you may try to use your home institution configuration process via a 'guest connect' on the University of Washington SSID network. If you have problems related to eduroam, please contact your home institution support staff for assistance.
In addition to UW's policies, the following also apply to visitors' use of UW eduroam:
AnyRoam.net: Persons without eduroam credentials may register with anyroam.net to get free eduroam credentials. These credentials are good for one year and may be renewed. UW-IT does not support anyroam. Contact anyroam.net with questions or problems.
The initial 'captive portal' page presented when first selecting the University of Washington wireless network SSID offers three options including one for guest access:
Select the "Connect as guest" button to proceed. Guest connections last for 3 hours and provide limited Internet access. For most guests/visitors, this service will meet their casual network needs while they are visiting UW. This network is not encrypted.
Guests/visitors who cannot access the eduroam network, cannot install anyroam, or for whom the guest connection is insufficient will need a Temporary UW NetID to connect to the University of Washington network. For more information, see "Temporary UW NetIDs".
