Overview

Viva Engage is a next-generation platform that combines the best features of Yammer with new functionalities designed to enhance engagement, facilitate communication, and foster a culture of collaboration across your organization. 

Key Features and Improvements 

• Enhanced User Interface: Viva Engage offers a refreshed, modernized user interface with improved navigation and a more intuitive layout, making it easier for you to find and access relevant information, conversations, and groups. 
• Integrated Experience: With Viva Engage, you can seamlessly connect and collaborate with colleagues from within Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 apps. This integration eliminates the need to switch between different platforms. 
• Smart Feed: The new Smart Feed feature in Viva Engage leverages AI capabilities to deliver personalized content and relevant discussions based on your interests, role, and connections. This helps you stay informed about the topics that matter most to you, ensuring you never miss important updates.
• Polls and Surveys: Engage others and gather feedback easily with the built-in polls and surveys feature. Viva Engage allows you to create, share, and analyze polls and surveys, making it simpler to collect valuable input and drive meaningful conversations. 

Important Information 

Due to student data privacy and compliance concerns, the service has been configured with the following: 

• Creating communities in Viva Engage is restricted to departmental requests. Please send an email request to help@uw.edu for the creation of new communities.  
• Posts and files will typically be deleted after seven (7) days but may take up to 15 days to be removed. Please check the "Info" of the community for specific automated deletion details.

Available Communities 

The following communities are set up and available for anyone in UW to use. Please remember that all posted content will be deleted after seven days. The communities themselves will not be deleted, however. 

• Buy, Sell, Trade 
• Housing 
• Rideshare Bothell 
• Rideshare Seattle
• Rideshare Tacoma 

How to Access 

Microsoft offers several ways to access Viva Engage, all of which are supported in the UW environment and can be used interchangeably. 

Mobile 

Google Play Store: Launch the Play app on your mobile device and search for Viva Engage.  Apple Store: Launch the Play Store app on your mobile device and search for Viva Engage. 

Browser 

In a browser window, navigate to https://yammer.com and login with your UW credentials.  Note: At the time of this writing, the URL remains the same as the former Yammer product. If this changes, we will update these instructions when the information is made available.

Microsoft Teams 

Viva Engage is included as an app that is accessed using Microsoft Teams, either the browser or desktop client versions. To get started, the Viva engage app needs to be added to Microsoft Teams, if it hasn't been already. 

Add the Viva Engage app for Teams

1. Open Teams on the web or in a desktop client.
2. Go to the left side of Teams and select Apps. 
3. Search for Viva Engage.
4. Select the Viva Engage app, and then select Add. This will add the app to all your Teams clients, including mobile.
