Hyak Klone: UW's Shared High Performance Supercomputing Research ClusterHyak Klone is UW’s on-premises, shared high-performance computing (HPC) cluster, designed to support a broad range of research workloads across disciplines. Hyak serves traditional HPC applications, data-intensive workflows, and GPU-accelerated research through a flexible condo model that allows faculty and research groups to purchase dedicated compute resources (“slices”) while benefiting from shared infrastructure and community capacity. Hyak Klone is well suited for sustained, production research computing needs and supports thousands of UW researchers each year. |

Tillicum: GPU-Accelerated Research Computing PlatformTillicum is the University of Washington’s next-generation, GPU-accelerated computing platform designed to support cutting-edge research, teaching, and learning in AI, machine learning, data science, and scientific simulation. Operated by UWIT Research Computing, Tillicum provides scalable, high-throughput, GPU-accelerated computing without requiring hardware ownership. Tillicum operates under a usage-based allocation model, offering researchers access to GPU-accelerated computing and storage for defined project periods. Researchers only pay for the compute time they used under a pay-as-you-go model. |

Cloud Computing for ResearchUWIT works with major commercial cloud providers—including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)—to provide Cloud service offerings that let the UW community and research teams more easily and securely consume cloud computing resources while benefitting from a variety of price breaks. Cloud computing supports research workflows that benefit from elasticity, specialized services, or external collaboration. In partnership with the UW eScience Institute, our consultants help researchers evaluate cloud suitability, estimate and manage costs, and integrate cloud tools into data science and research workflows. |

Computing for Restricted Access DataUWIT and the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) are working together to support researchers handling Restricted Access Data. Our initial efforts focus on Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), Federal Contract Information (FCI), and meeting NIST 800-171 standards for genomic data. Additional resources for other types of Restricted Access Data will be available soon. Learn more about Types of Restricted Access Data and Secure Computing Options. |

Training and Capacity BuildingUWIT Research Computing regularly hosts workshops led by our support staff to help researchers get hands-on experience with high-performance computing, GPU platforms, cloud services, and data science tools. We also partner with industry vendors such as AWS, NVIDIA, IBM, and others to provide specialized workshops, training sessions, and demonstrations on the latest technologies and research computing practices. These events are designed to help researchers and students build skills, optimize workflows, and stay current with emerging computational tools. |
