Overview

The Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) at the University of Washington provides structured data access for institutional reporting and analysis. This guide lists the EDW's databases, the environments they're available in, and their statuses. For more information on the EDW and how to access it, see: Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).

Server Environments

Each EDW database is available in two environments:

• Production (PROD)
  • SQL Server: edwpub.s.uw.edu
  • Updates: Databases follow unique update schedules, listed under Data Load Status
• Test (TEST)
  • SQL Server: edwtestpub3.s.uw.edu
  • Updates: Applied as needed or by request via edw-help@uw.edu
  • Latest Changes: Listed on Data Load Status; modifications may be made without notice

Available Databases

EDW databases store essential Academic, Financial, Human Resources/Payroll, and Research data. Below is a breakdown of major databases and their current state.

Predefined reports, dashboards, and cubes based on many of the following databases are available in the BI Portal. Additional information about these databases and the objects they contain may be found in Knowledge Navigator.

CoreData	A cross-section of source-similar reference data from multiple domains which is designated by UW Data Governance as essential to UW core business. This data is managed to guarantee uniformity and usage in support of UW functions.	Current
EDWPresentation	Integrated institutional Finance, Research, and Academic data designed and optimized for easy queries and analysis, with certified definitions and documented business rules.	Current
IBS	Operational School of Medicine salary data downloaded from ADP.	Current
RAD2	Analytic database that supports research administration reporting by providing access to proposal, award, and sponsor data. Built in collaboration with ORIS and launched in April 2025, RAD2 replaces the legacy RAD Cube and addresses data gaps caused by the transition to Workday Finance. It integrates proposal data from SAGE via the RIP platform, award data from Workday, and sponsor data from FE-App, enabling users to analyze research activities by sponsor, funding action type, and organizational unit. UWODS	Reflects the Foundation Data Model (FDM), the technical framework that organizes HR/Payroll and Finance data in UW's implementation of Workday. This database supports reporting for the following: Workday Foundation Data Model (FDM) and Financial Reference Data HR/Payroll Data	Current
UWSDBDataStore	Data from the central Academic mainframe system (SDB), including student demographic information, course schedule and student enrollment information, student degrees, student majors, registration and transcript information, and many other Academic-related topics.	Current
WDFinDataMart	A Finance data mart introduced as part of the transition to Workday Finance and providing the following data from Workday: Accounting & Operational Journal Transactions Grant & Financial Budgets Current Budget Balances Payroll Journal Line Detail	Current
AnalyticInteg (AIDB)	A sandbox environment that was created to give data users across campus the ability to work with and explore data from Finance, Planning & Budgeting (FPB, previously OPB) in a SQL context. Built in collaboration with FPB to serve as a proof of concept for consolidating Academic and Finance data. EFECSDataStore	A copy of some Management Accounting & Analysis (MAA)-related tables from the eFECS EffortReport database.	Frozen with the retirement of FAS and introduction of Workday Finance
FinancialSumMart	Organized to meet various administrative needs including annual financial auditing, UW organizational financial reporting, and budgeting analysis. Covers the university business domains of budget, expenditures, revenue, gifts and endowments, as well as some grant information. FRDataMart	Archive from the ODS of one year payroll check register detail, and gross pay control totals used for verification.	Frozen as of 7/27/2023 with the retirement of FAS and introduction of Workday Finance
GLDataMart	A General Ledger data mart. Contains GL transactions including payroll cash detail and use tax detail for the current biennium and prior three biennia.	Frozen as of 7/27/2023 with the retirement of FAS and introduction of Workday Finance (see UWODS and WDFinDataMart for current data)
HumanResources	An integration database for HR/Payroll data.	Frozen as of 7/27/2023 with the retirement of FAS and introduction of Workday Finance (see UWODS and WDFinDataMart for current data)
ODS	An operational database containing data from the central mainframe financial system (FAS) and the Human Resources/Payroll system (Workday). Includes financial transactions, a variety of paid and unpaid employment information, academic relationships, details about positions at the UW, and many other topics and tables in the area of Finance and HR/Payroll.
