Overview

Cloud Computing for the UW research community with discounted price and support from UW-IT. 

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a public cloud platform that provides solutions and services such as virtual machines, database instances, storage, and more. 

AWS is offered under the Internet2 NET+ service agreement through an authorized third-party reseller. 

This service agreement includes: 

  • Negotiated contracts, BAAs, and discounts
  • A Data Egress Fee Waiver that refunds egress charges up to 15% of an account’s monthly spend for eligible accounts. This waiver effectively eliminates the standard charges for moving data out of the AWS Service.
  • Access to the NIH STRIDES initiative with additional discounts and support.
  • Exemption from indirect costs with UW spend category, expenditure object code, Cloud Computing Services – F&A Exempt (SC1708). See our F&A Waiver knowledge base article for more information.

Eligibility

Available to UW faculty, staff, and affiliates with valid UW NetIDs and appropriate worktags. 

Pricing 

Prices for AWS services are set by Amazon and are based on usage. Negotiated Discounts from Internet2 NET+ are applied to all accounts serviced through the reseller.

AWS support is available 24x7 

Account provision time varies, but may be 1 to 3 weeks.
