Microsoft Teams Premium is an add-on license that adds to the basic Teams experience by offering advanced features like:
Teams Premium also supports larger meetings and webinars, up to 10,000 participants in view-only mode (compared to basic Teams, which is up to 1,000), and provides deeper analytics and enhanced security options like conditional access.
UWIT and UW Medicine enable only features that are FERPA-compliant and meet UW privacy and security policies. UW Medicine has only reviewed these features for HIPAA use cases involving transitory communication and incidental (i.e. accidental or unintentional) Protected Health Information (PHI).
Protecting UW information for our students, faculty, and staff is a shared responsibility for everyone at the UW. Before using Teams Premium, review the guidelines for using AI-based tools at UW.
For UW Medicine workforce, including UW School of Medicine, please review UW Medicine's Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Healthcare Setting.
Teams Premium does not use your data to train external AI learning models. Teams Premium does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communication - such as poll results, whiteboard and reactions - to train Microsoft's or any third-party artificial intelligence models.
While AI-powered features can be valuable tools that increase productivity, AI outputs and AI-generated content do have limitations and are not perfect. The performance of AI-powered systems is based on the data they have been trained on, which can lead to errors or inaccuracies (such as leaving out critical information or creating inaccurate content, also called "hallucinations") when presented with new or unexpected situations. UW Teams Premium utilizes developing AI technology, and Team Premium features may provide incorrect, inaccurate, misleading, or offensive responses. It is important for individuals using UW Teams Premium features to check any AI-generated content for accuracy.
Records, listed below, can be generated when using AI-powered features within Teams Premium. Retention policies for these records are aligned across UW and UW Medicine, and across basic and Teams Premium applications. Users are responsible for managing records if they need to be retained for a longer period.
Any records that need to be retained for a longer period should be stored elsewhere where it can be retrieved.
The UW Medicine AI governance has evaluated and approved Teams Premium for use with UW Medicine Data, with the following limitations:
UW Teams Premium is approved only for transitory communication and incidental (i.e. accidental or unintentional) PHI.
As with any AI-generated content, UW Teams Premium transcripts, notes and summaries must be reviewed and edited as needed by a UW Medicine team member to ensure both accuracy and appropriateness.
Teams Premium features are not approved and should not be used for any patient-facing interactions, such as telemedicine visits. For telemedicine appointments scheduled outside of Epic, Teams (including Teams Premium) should not be used, even if available.
